Baptized In the Congo River

Saturday after Good Friday, Micah along with another gentleman (Elsen), was baptized in the Congo river. Micah has requested to be baptized since age 6, we wanted him to be a little bit more mature before we let him. It was with a lot of pride that Pastor Jean baptized him in the Congo River that Saturday morning.

The Passion of the Christ

This Easter season, we decided to show the Passion of the Christ in different communities. The results are very encouraging. We started in our church communities: at the first church, “Source d’Eaux Vives”, we had a little over 50 people that came on Good Friday to see the movie. After the movie, we had an altar call and over 15 people gave their lives to Jesus. The second showing of the movie was a week after at our second church, “Cite de Vie”. The movie was shown in the open air, it is not possible to tell how many people saw the movie or gave their lives to Jesus, but well over 40 people prayed the sinner’s prayer that night. We did not have the chance to finish the movie, since we had a power outage that fortunately happened after the death of Jesus in the movie.
We have another showing scheduled for this Friday April 16th. It will also be an open air showing, we are expecting over 150 people to see the movie. It will be in a poor neighborhood where there is no electricity, so we have asked someone to lend us their generator. This movie is a tremendous depiction of the love our Lord has for us, it is great to share this movie and its meaning with so many people.

No water, no power, no food!

It’s been a month since we’ve been back in the Congo. When we arrived after a long and not so pleasant experience flying back, there was no electricity (only one candle in the house), no water, and no food. It was hard getting back to life in Congo. The first morning in Kinshasa, Sunday morning, Pastor Jean had to go to church by himself. Deborah and the kids had to stay behind and find water to wash and food to cook.
We got the message to start praying for water and electricity. We tried to get our freezer fixed (our big freezer and our only air conditioner broke down while we were away) so that we can go and by food (still not working) and we bought a refrigerator. We did not have one since we first came to the Congo (not easy in this hot climate).
We are happy to report that, two weeks ago, we started noticing that water will come at least three times a week during the day. It allows us to fill our water containers for the week. The power has improved also, we are not back to the situation we experienced last year but it is close. Sometimes we do not have power during the day but rare are the nights we do not have electricity, unfortunately this night is one. Our laptop has a good battery which allows me to keep working even when there is no power. God answers prayers!
One of the prayer requests we have, is concerning the container we are expecting next month. We pray that God will provide for the customs, we never know what to expect with that agency.

Much to give thanks for!

This is Deborah here just giving thanks to God for answered prayer! It's been less than a year since we took a leap of faith that stretched across the Atlantic Ocean and planted our roots in Congo in obedience to God's Word. "Go and make disciples." We now have a church of 40 members in Kinshasa, have seen over 50 lives given to the Lord, are mentoring 5 local Pastors, have touched over 500 street children with hot meals and a warm heart, and have much to tell of God's goodness, faithfulness, miraculous provision, and His never changing Word. Thank you to all of those who have been praying for our family and our ministry, it is blessing us. Thank you to all who have supported us in a tangible way (money, phone calls, emails, gifts of pews, drums, chairs, clothes, books, etc.....), it is truly sustaining us! I thank my God for the Body of Believers that the Lord is encircling around us we walk out His Word in Kinshasa, Congo. Keep checking in on our blog as we will have upcoming events and an updated donation list. We are in the States until March 12th, 2010. Look forward to seeing you at one of our Family Mission Nights soon!
